Some rare and beautiful mornings, you get a leisurely 40 minutes to do your makeup with a coffee in hand. And some mornings, a toddler is screaming for literally all the reasons, the dog needs out, and you have exactly 10 minutes before you need to be walking out the door looking like a person who has her life together. This routine is for that second kind of morning.

Even on the days that I see almost no one, the 10-minute routine is purely for me. It gives me just a few minutes to myself (even if those minutes have a toddler playing by my feet during it) to feel put together.

Step 1: Cleanse (30 seconds)

Love this for AM and PM. This is the fastest face wash I own because it does double duty - it melts off yesterday's makeup and sunscreen and cleans your skin in one step, so you're not standing at the sink doing a two-part cleanse. It also does not breakout or dry out my skin. A little goes a long way, rinse, done.

Step 2: Prep + Hydrate (1 minute)

This is the trick that makes the whole routine feel less rushed than it is. A few spritzes right after cleansing (and again over finished makeup or midday) hydrates skin, sets everything, and gives that dewy "I did a full skincare routine" look even when you very much did not. This one is new to my collection, and I am obsessed! Great for in the car or on-the-go touchups as well!

One pump, pressed into skin. This is doing the heavy lifting for brightness and evening out tone, which matters more when you're skipping full-coverage foundation later.

Lightweight and fast-absorbing, so you're not standing around waiting for it to sink in before you can move to the next step. It layers well under SPF and primer without pilling.

Step 3: Prime + Base (2 minutes)

Smooths everything out and helps the foundation grip and last, which matters a lot when you don't have time for touch-ups later. Gives that "glow from within" look.

For me, this is the real MVP of the routine. Built-in SPF 50 means you can skip a separate sunscreen step on rushed mornings, and the coverage is light but blurs enough that you look like you, just more finished. A couple of dots blended with fingers or brush takes 60 seconds.

Step 4: Cheeks & Glow (1 minute)

Cream blush is basically the official product of the 10-minute routine. Place two tiny dots on the apples of your cheeks and blend with your fingertips (the same fingers or brush you used for foundation, no extra tools needed). Both of these give a flushed, my-skin-but-better finish instead of anything obviously "done." Add to your lips for an extra "pop".

As a pale girly, I need all the extra glow help I can get! Dab this bronzer on the temples by your eyes right to the top of your cheek, two dots around the top of the forehead and a dot on the nose for a little summer glow (even if it's winter).

Step 5: Eyes (1 minute)

Curled lashes even without mascara bring your face to life! If I could do just two makeup tips for 2-minutes of getting ready, it would be a curler and blush. This eyelash curler helps the curl hold all day long.

L'Oréal Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara (or the Million Lashes version for more length)

One product, one swipe through each eye, and you look awake. That's the whole job of a good 10-minute mascara.

Step 6: Lips (30 seconds)

A touch of lip oil over the cream blush on your lips helps soften the final look. I have tried so many lip products, but keep going back to this one because it is not as sticky as other brands and lasts long with very little "lip gloss smell".

Technically a nighttime product, but it's genuinely one of the best quick daytime lip options too - swipe it on, it gives a soft tint and gloss, and it's doing skincare for your lips while you run out the door. Also doubles as your last step before bed, so one product covers both ends of the day.

A Few More to Add to the Rotation

The Bottom Line

The secret to a real 10-minute routine isn't rushing through more steps - it's picking fewer products that each do more than one job. SPF in your foundation, hydration in your setting spray, color and skincare in your lip product. Somedays, you'll only have time for one or two of the above - the point is to do a little something each day to make you feel you.
